Greenwood Metropolitan District’s George L. Martin

Receives Prestigious Water Quality Award

Text Box: Alexandria, Va. – George L. Martin, assistant manager of the Greenwood Metropolitan District in Greenwood, S.C., will receive the prestigious Collection Systems Award from the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international not-for-profit technical and educational water quality organization. The award will be presented during ceremonies at WEFTEC®.08 – WEF’s 81st annual technical exhibition and conference – next month in Chicago, Ill.
 
The Collection System Award is presented to an individual for contributions to the advancement of the state-of-the-art wastewater collection. Martin is being recognized as a consummate leader in the field of collection systems. From early in his career, Martin has promoted the need to have highly skilled and trained persons operate and maintain our nation’s collection systems. He has developed training programs to promote professionalism for collection system operators and helped create South Carolina’s Wastewater Collection Systems School that serves as a model for other regions. During his 13-year career with Greenwood Metropolitan District, Martin has implemented major operations and maintenance programs that have helped designate the utility as “first-in-class” within the field. 
 
Martin was honored during WEFTEC.08, the largest water quality event in North America and largest annual water quality exhibition in the world. More than 18,000 of the world’s leading water quality experts and 1,000 companies featuring the latest in water quality technology were present at McCormick Place in Chicago from October 18-22, 2008.
